Three days of live production for the Australian Defence Science, Technology and Research Summit, Australia's largest defence science gathering. Fieldstate Live ran AV across the plenary hall and gala dinner, built animated speaker graphics for every session, captured the full program on camera and turned the event into insights.

The summit

ADSTAR is hosted by Defence's Science and Technology Group and brings the whole defence innovation ecosystem into one building. Across 4 to 6 August 2026, more than 2,000 delegates from Defence, government, industry and academia came to Adelaide, joined by partners from the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada and the Republic of Korea.
The program ran under the theme Delivering More, Together, with more than 36 sessions, plenary addresses, workshops and an exhibition floor. Speakers included the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles, Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, Chief of the Defence Force Admiral Mark Hammond and Chief Defence Scientist Professor Tanya Monro. An audience at that level leaves no room for a dropped feed or a wrong name on screen.

Live: running the room
Lieutenant General Natasha Fox addresses a full plenary hall, with the live feed and an Auslan interpreter on the screens
Fieldstate ran the AV production under Fieldstate Live. The plenary hall was built around a wide centre LED screen flanked by two side screens, with camera feeds cut live so every seat in the tiered room had a clear view of the stage. The side screens carried the Auslan interpreter alongside the speaker, so accessibility was part of the show rather than an afterthought.
The same team carried the production through to the ADSTAR Gala Dinner, turning the exhibition hall into a dinner for well over a thousand guests with moving lights, haze and large-format screens set for the night's program.

On-screen content and speaker intros

Every session had its own animated graphics package, built in the summit's orange identity. Speaker intros, session titles and panel line-ups were designed and animated by Fieldstate, then played out live so each speaker walked on to their own name, title and portrait.
With more than 36 sessions, a long list of senior titles and an international panel roster, the graphics were managed as a running list through each day, with changes to speakers and order handled in the control room without the audience ever seeing the join.

Insights and content capture

Under Fieldstate Labs Insights, Fieldstate looked past the stage to how delegates moved through the summit: which sessions drew the room, where the exhibition floor was busiest and how people engaged with the program, so the event team had something to plan the next ADSTAR around.
Fieldstate also captured the summit in full: photography and video across the plenaries, panels, exhibition floor and gala dinner, with daily recap films turned around during the event so the story of each day was out while the summit was still running.
